Having sat through a string of departmental meetings of late sans tea and biscuits I was wondering whether you have any thoughts on which university department has the best biscuits/cakes?
My experience has been that HR has the most expensive Danish pastries. With.Real.Cream.
Departments associated with “supporting research” (to be interpreted very broadly, a bit like how the universities themselves interpret them) tend to have the most expensive cappuccino machines.
Academic departments seem to be lucky if they can manage one of those metal flasks with the confusing knob to pump the tea out (oo-er, misses!), and a pack of those chocolate chip round biscuits. Don’t they realise, I don’t get out of bed in the morning for anything less than a pack of Border’s chocolate Viennese whirls?? And tea made with actual tea bags (note: only Twinning’s).
Bankers have xmas bonuses. Academics have proper tea and shortbread.
